Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some wisdom on this struggling crabapple tree we have in our backyard.

As you will see from the video, the tree has major scarring on most of its branches that is causing the tree to produce minimal leaves when it should be flush this time of year. This type of crabapple does produce berries which you can see in the video, but my understanding is that they typically produce closer to the fall. Thus, I believe the fruiting that is occurring is a stress response, along the lines of a last dying breath.

I uploaded some photos to AI and its guess was that this was sunscald, which is when frozen trees are exposed to sudden shifts of intense sun. This happened this past winter where we had snow and 70 degree weather within a 24 hour period.

**Here is some other basic information about my location and the tree:**

\-We live in Tennessee

\-This crabapple is native to our area

\-Where it is planted it gets TONS of sun which is actually part of why we planted it there (to eventually have a few trees to provide shade)

\-It's watered regularly from our irrigation system for the lawn and I have been giving it fertilizer and preventative insecticides over the last year

\-This was a container tree that we planted back in spring of 2024

**My questions for you guys are:**

1. Can you identify whether this is indeed sunscald or something else?

2. What should I try to see if the tree can survive?
