Canadian Job Market
This may create some waves. Consider this post tectonically active, or don’t. Lol.
I don’t have a degree; I have 2 college diplomas (one in the field) and I am in the computer science field. I am currently employed in the industry, and I applied for a position that has a significantly shorter commute.
The minimum requirements for said position were one year of experience, and a post secondary education. (Both of which I have.) I applied. I have a connection at said location, but in a different department. I found out the day the another candidate was hired, that they have two degrees (CS and Biology) a cybersecurity college diploma, and 4.5 years of experience in the field.
I genuinely do not understand this. Is this a stepping stone for them while they wait for another position? I am content with where I am, and don’t get me wrong; VERY grateful. I guess it wasn’t meant to be for me. I am well aware of the current state of the job market in North America, but wow. Experiencing something like this first hand really puts things into perspective for me.
Thanks for the read!
