Playoff format idea (does any sports league do this?)

My idea is that starting with a top seed team down to halfway through all teams making it to playoffs, teams pick their opponents from the lower half of playoff teams. So if it’s 8 teams, 1st place best regular season team picks from 5-8 who they want to play against first, then 2nd place picks from the remaining 5-8, etc. could still preserve things like conferences, keep it contained so we still have finals meeting between conferences.

This format feels teams motivated to get THE best regular season record, whereas currently sometimes near the end teams might purposely lose enough games to get a favorable matchup if the alternative lower rated team seems to matchup more peoblematically
