Tired of "wasting" Claude's 5-hour usage windows? I built a tiny macOS tool that auto-primes them
Claude Pro / Max meters usage in 5-hour rolling windows. The window starts the first time you send a message and resets 5 hours later. If you don't send anything during a window, that quota is gone — there's no "banking" unused time.
Three times a day I'd realize I'd forgotten to fire up Claude until hours into a fresh window, effectively shrinking my daily budget. So I wrote a small macOS tool to do it for me.
What it does
Three times a day (06:30 / 11:30 / 16:30 by default) it:
-
Spawns claude in a real pty
-
Types "Hey!"
-
Waits for the response to settle
-
Sends Ctrl+C twice and exits
The full 5-hour window is opened the moment it resets, so the daily quota is always fully claimable.
Stack
- Pure shell + Tcl expect + launchd — all built into macOS
- No daemons, no deps, no API keys, ~80 lines of code
- Works alongside codex too if you have both subscriptions
- Logs to ~/Library/Caches/agent-maxprime/, last 10 runs kept
Install
git clone https://github.com/bunyodrafikov/agent-maxprime
cd agent-maxprime
./scripts/install.sh
(One-time prep: run claude once inside the repo dir and accept the "trust this folder?" prompt, otherwise the scheduled runs stall there.)
I am very much open to feedback. Please let me know if you get have any opinion on this!
