100 Ghosts Strong + The Ghost Directive: Surviving the Street.

Since we have a lot of new CCAs and veterans finding this page, let's talk about survival. Management will not protect your body, so you have to invest in yourself from Day 1. Here are the essentials for surviving the street:

• The Footwear: The postal-approved "green tag" shoes are garbage for your joints. If your office allows it, invest in high-quality walking or trail shoes with a wide toe box and a zero-drop platform. Your toes need room to splay out as they swell. The right build of shoe will literally save your knees over a 30-year career. Prioritize your body over a uniform technicality.

• The Socks: Throw away your cotton socks. Get lightweight, summer-weight Merino wool. Even in the brutal heat, Merino pulls the sweat away from your skin, keeps your feet dry, and prevents the massive blisters that cotton causes.

• The Base Layers: Postal uniforms are essentially polyester trash bags that trap heat. Do not wear standard cotton or cheap synthetic undershirts—they just trap the sweat against your skin. Invest in bamboo-blend or ultra-thin moisture-managing shirts. For the lower half, long-leg anti-chafe compression underwear is non-negotiable if you want to survive a walking route in July without your thighs bleeding.

• The Heat: Whether you are stuck in an LLV or an FFV, you are driving a rolling oven. Wear cooling sun sleeves and a wide-brim safari hat. Yes, you might look like the guy swinging over crocodiles in the old NES game Pitfall! (which is a pretty solid hint about my age, by the way), but looking cool doesn't matter when you are dealing with heat exhaustion.
