Lore/story question regarding wipes

:M2026:Marathon (2026) Discussion

How is this being handled each season? Is it like the same "starting at the beginning", with the exact same original missions with some more missions sprinkled in or added at the end? (E.g. Season 1 you get from point A to B in the story, season 2 is point A to C, S3 is point A to D, etc.) at some point it makes me feel like there'd be too much to reliably see the end content in a 3 month window if this game goes on for many seasons that way without eliminating stuff and starting a wipe at a point later than point A.

I could also see it being like a situation where you realize that you, as a runner, are actually just reliving your own memories each wipe in an effort to defragment your own consciousness or something, and as a result each new season is a different version of your own memories with more/less new details in the form of content. (think the burning village memories in Sekiro if you've ever played that).

Im just having a bit of a hard time understanding what can really be done in terms of a progressing storyline that necessitates starting over each time and also requiring a static world where there aren't massive environmental changes in the maps themselves. (like I would not be shocked if eventually we see pfhor come back to fuck shit up because of durandal, but unless they only appear on a specific new map, you'd never see them on any of the og maps, and there wouldn't be any evolution for those maps because matchmaking would have to be split up (or otherwise I guess you have a future and past version of the map?). The only other option is to just do away with the old content at some point and start a new wipe with "yeah you have no shit and no levels but you did acrually do a bunch of shit and time has progressed, you are not setting foot on the planet for the first time."
