It was about time someone talks about this phobie! ✨

Misanthrope is a bloated, incredibly grumpy-looking robot built out of heavy, industrial metal. His body incorporates two torn, cracked sections of a iron wall that look like they could snap together to form a barrier or a platform. He represents the desire for complete isolation, a literal walking wall designed to shut out the rest of the world and keep people away. 👀

Misanthrope directly embodies Misanthropy (the deep-seated hatred, dislike, or distrust of the human species and human nature). He also plays on Anthropophobia (the fear of people) and Agoraphobia (the fear of social spaces). He represents the psychological urge to build walls around yourself to avoid interacting with anyone else.. and obviously, like any other mechanical phobie, it represents Robophobia.

His entire design is a literal translation of his name. A "misanthrope" is someone who despises humanity, and his flavor text brings this home perfectly: "He doesn't like any of it" and "Yeah, I guess that's me." The pieces of torn walls attached to his body are a visual metaphor for the saying "putting up walls" to distance oneself emotionally and physically from others. 🥲

Stats:

Key cost: 3

Rarity: Common

Race: Mechanical (Immune to Poison and Disease, though vulnerable to electrical damage)

Health: 1700

Attack: 350

Movement: 2 Tiles (Walking)

Range: 1 Tile (Melee)

As an Affordable Meat Shield, with a massive 1700 HP pool, Misanthrope is one of the most cost-efficient pure tanks in the 3-key slot. Use him to absorb high-damage single-target hits from enemy heavy hitters to protect your squishy glass cannons.♥️

Because he is a Mechanical unit, he completely ignores Poison and Disease. He is a perfect counter-pick to send directly into lanes of poison and disease, or places occupied by toxic annoyances like Mr. Spilly, Creep, Tick or even Pasgetti❤️

His high health makes him incredibly annoying to remove once he sits on a capture point. He forces opponents to spend multiple attacks just to clear a cheap 3-key investment, giving you an advantage in the action economy. (Though that ralely even happends.. maybe if the enemy has no keys left to put down an electrical damage unit?)

However...

350 damage is quite low for a 3-key melee unit. Do not use him as an assassin or rely on him to secure quick kills. His job is to stand there, soak damage, and be the tank on the board.💕

As a Mechanical unit, he is a walking punching bag for electrical attackers. Keep him far away from units like Thunder Rocks, who will blast through his 1700 HP using electrical damage advantages. 👀

While 2 movement is standard, he has no ranged options. Avoid walking him straight down open lines of sight against 3-range archers who can peel his health away before he ever touches them, like Butcher or Oopsy Baby.. though this applies to any melee unit.😶

Misanthrope is a beautifully simple, well-rounded "bucket of health". He isn't flashy, he doesn't have a crazy active ability, and he honestly hates being on the battlefield. ✨
