Hey Dental Billing community note from mod

Spoiler

I recently went back to actively working in the dental field after some time away, and honestly… I’m stunned by how much more confusing and dysfunctional dental insurance systems have become.

It feels like every company has different rules, inconsistent answers between reps, constantly changing policies, hidden limitations, and processes that are unnecessarily difficult to navigate for both offices and patients. Sometimes it honestly feels intentionally opaque.

I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in collaborating on some kind of shared database/resource where offices could document: • Insurance company quirks • Common denial reasons • Narrative wording that works • Pre-auth requirements • Downgrade patterns • Frequency limitations • Which departments are actually helpful • Appeals processes • Tips for getting accurate information from reps • Real-world experiences with specific plans

Not to violate HIPAA or share patient info obviously — more like an industry knowledge base created by people actually dealing with this every day.

I feel like a lot of offices are all reinventing the wheel separately while insurance companies become increasingly harder to navigate.

Would anyone be interested in contributing to something like this? Even a shared spreadsheet or subreddit
