Getting charged with Defamation and Liable, NEED ADVICE

Yesterday I (20m) was served with a Court order charging me with Defamation and liable. They are pertaining to some fliers and stickers as well as 2 protest's that we did outside on the public sidewalk of their business(about how they are racist). they are pressing charges for lost customers as well as paying for their court cost's. I am not well financially after just moving out of my parents and cant afford a attorney. We are going to contact legal aid in my city and we do have some possible connections to lawyers that would help us pro bono. But i would like to ask for advice on what can stick some of the evidence in these papers are seriously just these people being butt hurt and trying to silence us. but others like liable i feel theirs no way to get out off, i have no criminal record and am currently in college.
