I Got The Steam Controller For Inscryption And It's Perfect For Me
One of my favorite go-to games on the Steam Deck was Inscryption (should be marked Verified). The graphics aren't demanding, the controls are simple, the turn based action allowed easy game suspension, and the game is just amazing in general. But the game changer for me was the Steam Deck's trackpad versus playing at the desk on PC.
This may not make sense to people who have always played mouse/keyboard, but as a primary console player that was moving to the PC world...playing mouse/keyboard just doesn't feel comfortable with some games. With Inscryption, I noticed I had been sitting in odd positions because of the constant reach up to the mouse/keyboard just to lean back to rest comfortably in the chair and survey the game, only to once again sit back up to mouse around.
Since I got the Steam Controller, I've played 5 hours of Inscryption and I am in love. The only buttons you need are the D-Pad, right trackpad and right trigger. The trackpad is accurate and the haptics make it feel so satisfying. I get to lean back in the chair with my hands and controller on my lap and just play without touching the desk. I even got up a couple times to grab something but was able to keep playing from the other side of the room. This just feels like the ideal game this controller was made for where I can get the best of PC and console experiences. The trackpad being able to mouse on the OS at all, feels incredible. I can control anything on the PC from a distance. It's crazy how something so simple makes the game just feel better than it ever did before. I'll probably still play on the Steam Deck, but now I can finally leave that for when I'm traveling out and about.
The only caveat I've noticed that bothered me is when using the left stick for Up/Down (in game you can zoom in the table or back to leave the table) I noticed that the stick would sometimes snap too strongly and bring me back to where I was or even farther Up or Down. I'm not sure if that would be a deadzone setting or something but while using the D-Pad, I had zero issues.
If this is what the Steam Machine will feel like, consider me psyched.
