help configuring iPhone as a presence device

Hello guys I hope you can help me, i'm trying so hard to get this to work.

i want to have a presence 1. for an icon, so we can see who is at home 2. for tp-link camera to go in to privacy mode when me or my wife are at home.

in my case (android) it's simple. Wifi connected = at home, not connected = not at home

but my wife with her iPhone...

I tried with the sensors from the companion. either BSSID or SSID, but it updates only if she has the app active and open. But iPhones does not update the sensors in the background.

Then, I tried with PING. This also works only if she is on the phone. If not it goes from "connected" to "disconnected"..

I'm not sure if GPS is an option because of the Battery usage.

I'm open for any advice. Thank you
