how can i become closer to my betta?

Help

hi all. around a month plus a week ago and after much deliberation, i ended getting myself a betta fish. the last time i owned a betta was well over a decade ago, and back then i was the sort of kid who really ought to have no business taking care a fish. now that i'm much older however, i've worked hard to do extensive research on proper betta care.

so far, everything seems to be going great! something i've noticed my betta doing a lot is him swimming to the front of his tank whenever i get ready to feed him, which i thought was really cute even though it's Definitely food-motivated. i've seen videos of people "playing" (actually usually just them offering their finger/hand to the fish and letting it do whatever it wants) with their fish though, and because i've seen people doing it with their bettas too, i figured it'd be nice if i could somehow get him to trust me enough to do much of the same.

problem is, even though he's taken a shine to me as his personal food dispenser, he doesn't seem to have much of a reaction to my finger nor my hand. although, despite the fact i just said it'd be nice if i could play with my betta the same way others do with theirs, i understand if it ends up being unfeasible due to his personality somehow. i also just want to bond with him. like, In General

any advice would be greatly appreciated!
