Should I ask him?

So, there's this guy in my class which I really like, but I feel like I have no chance with him.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like.. an unrealistic crush. We basically sit close and talk pretty often and we're on good terms, but he doesn't bother looking for me after school or including me no matter what.

Why I think I got no chance with him? I've seen that he seems much more engaged with his other friends, so I automatically decided to let him be, not to destroy his vibes. Also, I get emotionally hurt when I see others having the success of being closer to him. So, rather that appearing hurt, I decide to leave him alone

Don't understand me wrong, I don't want romance. I just want to befriend him outside the school context, which seems impossible because of what i described earlier. Plus, I'm already used to wanting ppl as friends then not getting them, so, if I lose him, it's not that much of a loss except a heartbreak

Actually, he's tried to include me at some point, but back then i was very rigid and skeptical, so he might've lost interest and all, because i've said no multiple times and, recently, I've also laughed uncontrollably at his bad luck (example: bad grade or being caught with undone hw)

So, what do y'all recommend me to do? Try to approach him or forget about it?
