Say what you want about the Punisher Special but they got the hand to hand combat just right!

Spoiler

So I, like a lot of you, was a little let down by the Punisher Special. Definitely not what we were hoping for. Plus im still mad about that opening bit with the dog.

However one thing they got just right was the hand to hand combat. Frank doesn't fight like Matt Murdock he fights like Frank Castle. He's very methodical and brings maximum force against singular combatants at a time. If forced to fight multiple guys at once he attempts to isolate them until hes able to get in a killing blow, then repeats as needed. Whereas Matt, if hes fighting 3 guys he spreads his focus evenly on all of them.

Franks fighting style isn't better by any means but they are important differences in charactization. When Matt fights hes trying to save as many people as possible. He does this by making sure all the bad guys are too busy fighting him. When Frank does it his goal is to kill as efficiently as possible thus leaving no bad guys around to harm people.

The Netflix shows all did this beautifully. They even managed to give Danny Rand his own style. He's got a very flowy almost dance like fighting style that seems geared towards dueling. Which is why we see especially in season 2 of Iron Fist he has to use his Fist to get out of situations that Matt or Franks fighting style would try to keep them out of to begin with.

I will say its nice to see this focus on making sure even individual fight scenes between different characters don't feel the same. Like I said I didn't like One Last Kill as much as I hoped but I am pretty stoked for a possible live action Frank vs Barracuda fight if they end up doing a sequel.
