Second attempt: Cursor use as a non-developer, feedback wanted
First attempt at this post got taken down for being AI slop. It wasn't, it just used punctuation and formatting for clarity. I started out as a technical writer, and all the techniques I learned about how to make documents readable/scannable (text formatting, liberal use of numbered/bulleted lists) now look suspect. Here's a wall of text instead, that I promise I typed myself by pushing buttons with my human fingers.
I use Cursor because it's on a short list of approved tools at my very large legacy tech company. It is almost certainly more than I need because I'm not a developer, I get that, but it's what I can use without violating very restrictive data security policy I'm not equipped to argue with. The system I created is a supplement to my terrible memory. It consists of three agents. The first (The Scribe) takes as input 1) an Obsidian daily note with copypasta from my IMs and emails and 2) all my meeting transcripts from the day's meetings. It looks for five specific things (risks, dependencies, action items, decisions, open questions). The second agent (The Integrator) files these into a system of folders and Markdown files organized by project. It does a decent job of matching The Scribe's output to the right project; if it can't find a project, it suggests adding a new one or adds to a general folder if whatever unit of meaning (e.g., action item) isn't tied to a specific project. The last agent, The Strategist, is supposed to provide strategic insight, like rating risks. It doesn't do a great job and tends to mark everything as critical. But it is good for writing comms and messages to difficult stakeholders (making a show of remembering their pet concern, etc.). It also does some agonizing bureaucratic paperwork for me, and I actually got some compliments on its work.
In practice, I can remember a fragment of something someone said in a meeting, and instead of combing through documents I can just ask this system for more context. Or I can copy-and-paste an IM from my manager when I can tell she's in a meeting with a VP and get a quick, substantive response to her question.
What I would love is advice. I know Cursor's capable of delivering more or accomplishing the same thing in a simpler way. For example, I'd like to create a dashboard/heatmap of project risks/dependencies and to-dos, but with everything from The Strategist marked as CRITICAL it gets too noisy. If anyone has been there, I'd appreciate your advice!
