Struggling after Term 2; advice on diploma prep and subject selection
Hi everyone. I'm currently wrapping up my second term in the foundational level, and I'm expecting my CGPA to drop from around 9.25 to roughly 8.5 once results are out. I did well in Python and English but really struggled with Maths 2 and Stats 2 this term.
A few personal circumstances made it genuinely difficult to study these subjects properly. My mother's health was deteriorating during this period and my brother and I were sharing a single laptop for most of the term. I only got my own device around 10 days after Quiz 2 so a significant chunk of the term was just... difficult to navigate. I got through the courses but I don't feel confident in my understanding of the concepts at all.
From what I've heard diploma-level subjects demand strong fundamentals and a fairly solid grasp of both maths and statistics. Is that actually true in practice? And if so would it make sense to spend my vacation properly relearning the Maths 2 and Stats 2 material before diploma starts rather than jumping in underprepared?
I also wanted to ask about subject selection for the first diploma term. I want to rebuild my confidence manage my workload more sustainably and protect my CGPA this time around. How much would seniors recommend slowing down? Are there particular subjects or combinations that tend to work well for someone trying to ease into diploma level?
For context I'm generally a pretty consistent student and this term was genuinely an exception rather than the rule. Any honest advice from people who've been through something similar would mean a lot.
