I can’t tell if this was mutual or just in my head 😭

There was this senior in my college. We never dated and we never even talked consistently, but over months there was this strange mutual awareness between us. We kept having eye contacts all the time, smiling whenever we crossed paths, teasing/jokey interactions during events, awkward phases where we ignored each other and then smiled again later like nothing happened.

But at the same time, he never really strongly pursued anything either. Most of our messages were academic and I was usually the one initiating.
Now I genuinely can’t tell if there was actually some mutual attraction there or if he was just a socially nice/helpful person and I ended up feeling too deeply.

People who’ve experienced almost-connections like this… what does this sound like to you? 😭
