Space Haven is ambitious. Managing a crew, keeping a ship alive, navigating the unknown. It captures the feeling that space travel is hard and complicated and worth it.

I had a more modest goal. What if I just simulated the mining part — but made it genuinely challenging? The fuel management, the resource decisions, the moment you realise you went too deep into a hostile system with not enough ammunition to get back out.

Cosmic Gold Rush doesn't simulate an entire voyage. It simulates the part where you land on a dangerous planet, deploy your robots, fight off whatever is defending the gold, and hope you make it back to the ship.

Seven solar systems. Each one harder than the last. Each one with its own way of killing you.

Space Haven made me love the idea of simulating a real space voyage — I took a more modest slice of that: simulating mining in space with everything trying to stop you
