how to regain vocal ability
Ive been a singer my whole life, belting and singing freely at home all I wanted, and id like to think I was pretty good too.
It wasnt until I moved for university where my practice schedule changed drastically. Instead of singing practically everyday for hours on end I was singing shyly in my apartment with my guitar for maybe a few minutes a day.
fast forward to now, i'm halfway through my degree and I realized that I don't sing or practice as much as I used to and I can hear it in my voice when I sing. belting is harder, i'm pitchy on high notes (or just straight up cant sing high notes I used to sing effortlessly) and my vocal agility is almost gone.
obviously this makes me so sad, as singing and music is such an incredibly big passion of mine, so to know that I cant sing like I used to really hurts me.
Would anyone be able to give me advice? So far i've been purposely going to the practice rooms of my school (i'm in music school for classical voice ironically, however i'm mainly talking about regaining my pop/contemporary voice right now) and practicing singing belty songs while playing guitar.
i'm trying to also work on my shyness, as I know a good portion of why I stopped singing as much was because I was shy and didn't want to disturb my neighbours (with living in an apartment now, rather than living in my childhood home).
I would appreciate any feedback or ideas to get my voice back to where it used to be.
