I’ve started asking interviewers for their email before the interview ends
I’ve started asking interviewers for their direct email before the call ends, especially when I can tell the role might not be the cleanest fit.
Not because I’m trying to force my way into the wrong job. It’s more because I don’t want the entire conversation to end with me waiting around for a no-reply rejection email that says, “Thanks for applying, we found a better candidate.”
If I spent 30 or 45 minutes talking with a real person, I want a real point of contact coming out of it. Even if the role is not right, I’d rather be able to follow up directly, thank them for the conversation, and keep the door open if there is a better fit somewhere else in the company.
It also gives me a clear end goal for the interview beyond whatever agenda they set. Obviously I still answer their questions and treat the interview seriously, but I’m also trying to leave with something useful: a direct contact, a warmer relationship, and a way to stay in the conversation instead of getting dropped into the ATS void.
I’ve only started doing this recently, so I’m not pretending it is some magic move. But I do think candidates let interviews end too passively sometimes. If the company is worth staying close to, asking for the interviewer’s email feels like a reasonable way to hold the process a little more accountable.
