With All the Classic+ Discussions Lately, Here’s My Take
I’ve only really played Classic during the original launch for its entire duration, a bit during the Anniversary servers, and also some SoD. I don’t think Classic+ should fully become like SoD, but I do think they got a few things right and that Blizzard should definitely take inspiration from some of those features.
I haven’t played Turtle WoW, so I don’t really know what kind of systems or features they added there. But to me, the most important thing about Classic+ is adding new content while keeping the game “horizontal” instead of constantly increasing power levels and making older content useless over time.
One of the best parts of vanilla WoW was that the world felt connected. Players still had reasons to run older dungeons, farm older zones, help lower-level players, or revisit previous raids. I think Classic+ should expand on that philosophy instead of turning into a constant gear reset every patch or expansion.
Here’s a few ideas I’d personally love to see for Classic+
They could add new dungeons and raids where the drops are runes/glyphs that improve certain spells or even completely change how a spell works. This way, older raids and dungeons would still remain relevant since players would continue farming specific runes or build-defining items instead of replacing everything every new phase or expansion.
They could also rework the talent trees and make character progression continue after hitting max level. Once max level, players could keep earning talent points through dungeons, raids, world content, reputations, or even PvP, kind of like a Paragon system, but adapted to WoW Classic. Not something overpowered, but enough to slowly customize and improve your character over time while rewarding active players.
They could introduce new legendary weapons and items for every class instead of only a few classes benefiting from them. Long questlines involving raids, rare materials, professions, world bosses, and difficult objectives would give players meaningful long-term goals to chase and keep the MMORPG feeling alive.
Adding new questing zones like Hyjal, Azshara updates, or Silvermoon would also expand the world without removing the vanilla atmosphere. These zones could include hidden questlines, elite group quests, reputation rewards, rare mobs, profession recipes, and new dungeon entrances connected directly to Warcraft lore.
It would also be really cool to have Dalaran back on the ground in Hillsbrad Foothills near its original location. It could become a major neutral hub with profession trainers, class questlines, new vendors, reputation systems, and even features like reforging on gear for some currency.
Another big thing would be adding new class specializations and more tank possibilities for different classes. Some classes already feel like they were originally meant to have additional roles but never got fully developed. Things like:
- Shaman tanks using Earth and shield abilities
- Rogue evasion tanks
- Warlock demon-form tanks
- Mage support/healer specs
- More viable melee Hunters
New dungeon and raid gear sets could then be specifically designed for those alternative playstyles instead of forcing every class into only one viable endgame role.
Things like gems were actually a really good addition from TBC because they made gear more customizable while also making professions more valuable and relevant long-term. Systems like that could fit really well into Classic+ if they stay balanced and don’t go overboard.
More mounts, collectibles, hidden treasures, rare cosmetics, pets, achievements, and exploration rewards would also help keep the world alive and give players more things to grind outside of raids.
Small quality-of-life improvements would help too while still keeping the vanilla feel intact:
- Mount collections/inventory instead of taking bag space
- More bank storage
- Dual spec
- Better summon systems for raids/dungeons
For the PvP players, they could add guild vs guild PvP systems. For example, guilds could compete against each other every week, and the guild that earns the most honor during that period would receive special rewards, cosmetics, titles, mounts, or even temporary world buffs.
They could also make separate competitions focused specifically on open-world PvP, like rewarding the guild with the highest amount of honorable kills outside of battlegrounds. This would make world PvP feel way more alive again instead of having everyone sit in cities or only queue battlegrounds all day.
It would create rivalries between guilds, bring more activity into contested zones, and recreate some of those chaotic large-scale world PvP moments that made vanilla feel alive and unpredictable.
Overall, the goal should be adding more progression, replayability, and class diversity without losing the original vanilla experience. The world, community aspect, slower progression, and RPG feeling are what made Classic special in the first place. New content should expand on that foundation instead of replacing it or making older content useless over time.
I think Classic+ should focus more on horizontal progression instead of constant power creep and gear resets every phase. Older raids, dungeons, professions, and zones should still have value even when new content releases.
Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any ideas that could work well for Classic+ without losing the feeling and identity of Vanilla WoW.
