I want to know Garth's Story so badly

Title. I want to know why Garth is Mayday and why he has a genuinely good heart/ wants to help the girls/ views them as people! Is it teen boy rebellion and searching for something exciting and not actually ideological? Did he experience abuse by his dad and/or watch his dad abuse handmaids that were good to him? I am honestly more interested in his story than any of the other characters, because why would a guy in one of the most privileged positions in Gilead, work against his own privilege? And especially work with the same people who attacked his father.
