Has anyone had something like this happen after a 20 week scan?
I’m currently 21+5 with fraternal twins. At my 20 week anatomy scan, the sonographer repeatedly reassured us that everything looked good and said she had no concerns at all.
We even spent quite a while looking at the babies’ hearts. She showed us all chambers, the valves, blood flow in and out of the heart, and was explaining everything as she went. Nothing seemed concerning whatsoever.
Then 10 days later, I had a pre-booked appointment with my doctor to go over the scan results, and she noticed that one baby’s sonogram notes said “abnormal chest” with no further explanation attached.
My doctor seemed confused because there were no details saying what the abnormality actually was, and the sonographer who did the scan wasn’t there to ask.
I’ve now been referred to fetal medicine for a follow-up scan, but I’m really stressed because literally nothing was mentioned to us at the scan itself. No concerns, no extra monitoring, no “we need better images”, nothing.
Has anyone had anything similar happen where something vague was written in the notes after the scan, but you’d been told everything looked normal at the appointment itself? And if so, what did it end up being?
The timing is also awful because I’m going on holiday tomorrow for a week, so now I’m waiting around trying not to panic until I can get the fetal medicine scan done.
