Why does GothamChess’s discord require password verification to talk?

This honestly is deeply concerning to me, although I don’t know if there’s something I’m just missing. I just don’t see any reason why the GothamChess discord should need your password for verification purposes. It immediately gives me a bad feeling. I know I’m in the official discord because I clicked on the link from YouTube right in his channel description. Phone verification I get, but password verification just sounds extremely suspicious, regardless of whether it means your twitch or discord password, that just screams sketch to me.

Is there something I’m missing here? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
