60 Mile Run Advice
Next week I am running with a group on a 60 mile run. The path is a mostly paved trail (Rail to Trail) but about 1/4 of it will be gravel. I recently came off a training block with milage going as high as 80mpw as well as a marathon in 2:49 three weeks ago. One of my other friends running with me also ran a 2:46 in the same marathon. What should I expect for this run, I do not plan to run it like a marathon at all and go at it casually. Fueling and Hydration are going to be highly important I’m assuming, and I have a hydration vest and there are some spots along the way I can refill water. I’m used to gels every 30 mins during my marathon but obviously this kind of run is different. This is not an organized event so it will be up to me to bring what I need. Outside of marathons the only thing I’ve ever done remotely close to this is half a backyard ultra for 50 miles last summer.
My question is what should I expect from a pace standpoint and how long should I expect this run to take and if anyone was in similar marathon shape to try this kind of run. Also, just any general advise would be great, long term weather forecast are looking to be pretty good with morning being around 50ish and highs only in the low 70’s maybe no rain or anything forecasted at this time. Thank you for any and all advise! This is a run I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time! Thank you for any an all advise!
