So I went to the dentist today for the first time in years (I know…bad). But nonetheless I went. Precursor I went to aspen dental because it was the only place I could get an appointment within a year. I have plaque build up from a permanent retainer that I really need professionally cleaned. The hygienist was so rude I couldn’t believe it, she told me if I don’t prepare well enough for my cleaning I will be “jumping out of the chair” in pain, as well as “given how sensitive your gums are I assume you have many cavities” (I was so happy to prove her wrong 😂). The dentist herself seemed well educated and on her game. Apparently on my x-rays it looked like I had cavities but after her testing she determined I just have an anatomically weird mouth / teeth shape (my ortho said this when I was a kid as well). When she confirmed no cavities I was thrilled. I go to the billing office to discuss treatment plan and financing and I see they still have me scheduled for a filling even though I don’t have a cavity… I read online this is not super out of the ordinary but coming from a place that is known to money grab I wanted to know if any dentists find this sketchy or weird???? When I questioned it the billing lady said “nope they’re still going to fill it, you just get less drilling” I’m thinking of getting a second opinion because I have good dental insurance and this just feels odd to me. Back molars are the ones in question. TIA!
