Affordable housing in Parkdale projects. Thoughts?
There are several new projects geared toward providing housing in Parkdale, some on the large side.
Two are being built in conjunction with PARC (the Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre charitable organization, long involved in providing and advocating for affordable housing in the neighbourhood)
11 Brock - looks to be getting close to being done. Interesting architecture. "A four-storey building providing 42 rent-geared-to-income homes with supports to maintain residents’ health, wellbeing, and housing stability. Each apartment will have a private kitchen and bathroom. The building will also include shared amenities such as a laundry area, a commercial kitchen, and dedicated programming spaces for residents. Rents will not exceed 30 per cent of a resident’s income to ensure affordability."
1499 + 1501 Queen West - Proposal for one 10-story and one 7-story buildings, built over existing PARC buildings, providing 140 "deeply affordable" rental units + 3 floors of community spaces. Seems a little tall for that stretch of Queen to me, but I guess it's needed - or they're asking for more than they'll end up with. I think the consultation process is on now.

Parkdale Hub/Parkdale Peoples Place - long promised never-delivered huge revitalization of the Parkdale Library and the Masaryk-Cowan Community Recreation Centre , with a promised 171 mix of market-price and affordable rental units + an art gallery and community spaces. Details scant, but looks to be about 10 stories. Supposedly will be done by 2029. A City of Toronto project - so maybe done by 2039.
