Demo vs Early access: the Good and Bad in both.
I know the demo has issue, which was inevitable given the nature of the release. Having played both, there are things I like about both as well as things I wish they would get rid of. I'll be listing my things below, but I'm curious as to what everyone thinks needs keeping or changing.
What I like about the demo.
The demo loading sequence is a lot quicker and less cumbersome than in the early release; click on load, it bring up the folder, you click on that and off you go.
It's easier to get things built in the demo. Even on the easiest setting, resources seem very hard to come by in EA, and the features built to improve things, like the main castle upgrades and treasury, have been nerfed significantly.
There isn't too much stuff cluttering the landscape. I don't mean things like the resources; too many new structures in EA that either can't be used early on, most often because they are guarded by units so tough you need a mid game army to defeat, by which point the rewards become meaningless. This ties in to the previous point; enough with the objects you have to visit every week to get resources. Either make them mines that provide passive resources, or increase the rewards so going back to them is worth the effort. The Wise Owl is nice.
No astrology.
Saved game don't crash on when coming back the next day. I've had EA for three days, every day I've had to start a new game for...reasons?
Depending on the maps, other towns are of the same faction as your first. I understand the desire for variety, but some maps are too small to be able to afford to have every different type of town. How am I supposed to build a decent army to beat the bad guy when my temple faction units are bickering with the undead that are my only other source of manpower?
EA version.
Easier to navigate GUI, letting you use the keyboard to access heroes and town like they had in HOMM 3. Having the option to customise the short cut keys is nice too.
Having the laws and astrology (grr) icons somewhere closer to where you look all the time helps to remind you to implement them. I've lost count of the number of times I've forgotten to take advantage of the bonuses because I rarely look in the top left corner of the screen.
Some of the new buildings do have some interesting ideas behind them, like the one where you can hire both base and upgraded units, though with a reduced count for the more powerful units.
There seem to be more and varied artifacts of higher levels dotted around the place, though their accessibility can be questionable (see point 3).
I've only played on the one map so far, being compulsive enough to want to finish one before moving onto another. These are the main points I've seen so far.
