Why Relationship Plots Create Greater Emotion
No matter the genre, movies become more emotional and relatable when they are built around human relationships and personal stakes. Maybe that's why our Puranas and Itihasas still live on in our hearts, they were stories of bonds, not just battles.
Emotionally unforgettable stories are often not about what happens, but about who it happens to, and who they love or lose.
For example, Interstellar is not emotionally powerful just because humanity is in danger. At its core, it is about a father trying to reunite with his daughter and fulfill the promise he made to her.
But Tenet is primarily driven by a global threat and the idea of saving the world.
One story is emotionally personal. The other is conceptually massive.
Audiences may admire large scale stakes, but they deeply feel personal stakes.
“Will the world survive?” creates tension.
“Will a father meet his daughter again?” creates emotion.
That is why personal bonds often stay with us longer than spectacle alone.
