Day 1 of my daily news-guessing game: 30 visitors, zero marketing… and somehow 50% from the US?
I just launched Main Character Today, a daily game where you guess the person making headlines from 20 progressive clues (fewer clues = more points). Wordle's daily loop, but for current events.
Day 1, with literally zero promotion: 30 visitors and weirdly 50% were from the US. I'm French, the site launched with France first, I posted nowhere. No idea where the Americans came from. If someone can explain the US thing I'm genuinely curious.
It's fully automated. Every day a job pulls real RSS news per country, an LLM picks who's trending in each category (Politics, Reality TV, Sport, Actors) and writes 20 ordered clues from the actual articles with a pass that makes sure the name never leaks into a clue. No human curation.
Stack: Next.js , Postgres/Prisma, Claude for selection + clue writing, Vercel. Just shipped multi-country (France, UK, US)
Free, no account: maincharactertoday.com
Feedback I'm after: 1 is the difficulty curve right, 2 what do like or not in the web site?
And seriously why the US traffic?
