The last JW hang out that helped me wake up...and still keeps me up at night
The last time I tried even giving the women in my congregation a chance, they had invited me to a last minute hang out on a Friday evening. The host told me to just bring a soda and chips because it was super chill and we were just gonna get together around the bonfire to chat and hangout. I had spent 2 years trying to make friends in this congregation but people were just weird asf and never wanted to talk or hang out. So this was surprising.
When I got there, I noticed the host had made a home made salsa, chips, and she made margaritas. As people kept coming in, I noticed that their dishes got bigger and more lavish. They brought MULTIPLE char-coochie boards and another sister brought some home made dips in this fancy wood type dish. The table looked like a lavish paradise table with all sorts of warm and intricate foods and I was a little surprised they whipped it up last minute. Like 10 different people brought huge dishes.
Anyways, everyone was standing around the table and trying to chat with one another it was very awkward. Some talked about the weather and other's talked about the kids and literally the most basic chatter. I joined in and was just listening and tried talking as well but I kept noticing that as time went on, no one even touched the food. They stood next to the table but no one was picking up any food. The host told them they could get food any time they wanted and they all nodded and just stood there. Another 30 minutes passed by and I decided to get some food and they all looked at me in silence...
It was so awkward. No one got anything and they sat around the bonfire. It was quiet. Everyone started to look up at the sky even though there were no stars in sight and things got so awkward... I was the only one munching away at the food. One of the sisters that I genuinley liked was acting very strange. She wouldn't talk or look at me and she was just on her phone the entire time. Mind you, she was way older than me like in her 50's.
An hour had passed by and one person decided they needed to turn into bed early. It was 7:45pm... and things got even more awkward after she left. At this point nobody had still picked at the food...Another hour passed by and conversations were awkward and no one knew what to say. Unfortunately, this has been a pattern I saw for years in different congregations as a JW and it was merely impossible to make friends. I've belonged to a total of 7 different congregations and all except 1 were like this. Complete zombies.
Has anyone gone through this before?
