👻 **GREATEST TEXAS MYSTERIES — THE EZEKIEL AIRSHIP: THE FLIGHT THAT HISTORY FORGOT**

Every American schoolchild learns the same story.

December 17, 1903. Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright made history's first powered airplane flight — changing the world forever.

Except — according to documented evidence, sworn eyewitness testimony, and a historical marker that still stands in a small East Texas town today — **a Texas preacher already did it first.**

And somehow — almost nobody knows his name.

**THE REVEREND AND THE FLYING WHEEL** 🔥

In the tiny town of Pittsburg, Texas — deep in the East Texas Piney Woods of Camp County — a Baptist preacher named Reverend Burrell Cannon was reading his Bible in 1900 when he became completely obsessed with a single passage.

The Book of Ezekiel. Chapter One.

In it, the prophet Ezekiel describes a terrifying and magnificent vision — a great wheel within a wheel, covered in eyes, powered by a living spirit, capable of rising instantly from the earth and moving in any direction without turning.

Most preachers read that passage as pure spiritual metaphor.

Reverend Cannon read it as **engineering blueprints.**

He was convinced — with absolute unshakeable certainty — that God had given Ezekiel a detailed description of a flying machine. And he believed God was now calling HIM to build it.

His congregation thought he had lost his mind.

He didn't care.

**THE MACHINE THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE EXISTED** ⚙️

What Reverend Cannon built in a Pittsburg workshop between 1900 and 1902 was — by any measure — extraordinary.

Using biblical descriptions as his only guide, he constructed a fabric-covered craft with large paddle-like wings powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine. He formed an actual company — the **Ezekiel Airship Manufacturing Company** — attracting legitimate investors from across East Texas who believed in his vision enough to put real money behind it.

The craft was constructed. Tested. Adjusted. Refined.

And then — in the summer or early fall of **1902** — according to multiple sworn eyewitness accounts from Pittsburg residents — **it flew.**

Not a hop. Not a stumble along the ground.

A **sustained, controlled, powered flight** over the streets of Pittsburg, Texas — **more than a year before Kitty Hawk.**

Eyewitnesses reported the craft rose clearly off the ground, traveled several hundred feet, and landed safely. One witness — a shop owner named Gid Garnett — reportedly watched from his storefront and described it to his family for the rest of his life.

The Pittsburg newspaper apparently reported it.

And then — almost as if someone decided it shouldn't exist — **the story quietly disappeared.**

**THE DESTRUCTION THAT CAME AT EXACTLY THE WRONG MOMENT** 💨

Reverend Cannon was not a man who gave up easily. Energized by his successful flight, he made plans to take the Ezekiel Airship to the **1904 St. Louis World's Fair** — the biggest public showcase in America at the time — where the entire world would see Texas beat the Wright Brothers to the sky.

The airship was loaded onto a railcar and began the journey toward St. Louis.

Somewhere along the route — accounts differ on exactly where — **a violent storm struck.**

The Ezekiel Airship was **destroyed completely.**

No physical evidence survived.

No photographs of the craft in flight have ever been found.

The witnesses aged and died.

The newspaper archives from that era in Pittsburg — **mysteriously incomplete.**

Reverend Cannon attempted to rebuild. He secured new investors. He started construction again. But funding collapsed, momentum died, and the project was ultimately abandoned.

Eighteen months after the Ezekiel Airship was destroyed in that storm — **Orville Wright took off at Kitty Hawk** and was declared the father of aviation by a world that had never heard of a Baptist preacher from East Texas.

**WHAT THE HISTORICAL RECORD ACTUALLY SAYS** 📜

This is not folklore. This is not rumor passed between generations around a campfire.

The state of Texas erected an **official historical marker** in Pittsburg, Camp County — acknowledging Reverend Cannon's airship and the eyewitness accounts of its flight.

The Smithsonian Institution received inquiries about the Ezekiel Airship for decades.

Aviation historians have quietly debated it for over a century.

The honest answer from every serious researcher is always the same:

**We cannot prove it flew. But we cannot prove it didn't.**

The witnesses are gone. The craft is gone. The records are incomplete.

And the Wright Brothers — who had every reason to monitor competitors — never once publicly acknowledged hearing about a powered flight in East Texas in 1902.

Which is either proof it never happened.

Or proof that someone made very sure they never had to address it.

**THE QUESTION HISTORY NEVER ANSWERED** 👇

A Baptist preacher. A biblical blueprint. A flying machine built in the East Texas Piney Woods. Multiple eyewitnesses. A company with real investors. An official Texas historical marker.

And a storm that arrived at the single most important moment possible — destroying every piece of physical evidence just before the world was watching.

Was Reverend Burrell Cannon of Pittsburg, Texas the true father of powered flight?

History says no.

But history also buried the story so completely that most Texans have never even heard his name.

Some mysteries don't hide in ancient ruins or unmarked graves.

Some mysteries hide in plain sight — on the pages of a history book that was never written. ✈️👻

No sobrevivió ninguna evidencia física.
