New player question on taking breaks from the game.

If I play on a offline solo world and close the game will everything pause? I’ve tried googling it and I keep getting two different answers. Either A: everything stops and you can come back whenever and pick up where you left off Or B: everything keeps going in the background and if you didn’t set up the tribesmen to be self sufficient they will all die if your gone to long.

Is this just out of date in for or a setting you can pick on creating a world?
