[Advice] Am I allowed to work?

Hi, I have been granted Asylum and legally entered the U.S on November. I was allowed to work but I have to wait for my work permit to arrive. It has been more than 5 months and I have considered doing freelance for the meantime. Since in my origin of country, I would do freelance as a side hustle. I’m guessing that there has been a delay for every status/documents that’s why I was unable to receive my EAD.

If I start freelance without a permit, I am worried this might affect my status or a bad consequence might happen. I just wanted to make sure if it’s possible or not to work remote. Hoping to hear advice/guides for this situation. Thank you to everyone for having time to read this. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
