Which emergency radio is actually reliable when the weather gets bad?
A lot of emergency gear sounds great until people actually have to use it during a storm. Hand-crank radios are one of those things where every review seems to say something different — one person says the signal is crystal clear, another says it barely picks anything up once the weather turns bad.
What brands or models have people here had good luck with? Is reception mostly about the antenna, or does price actually make a big difference?
Also curious how often people actually crank these things during real outages. Do the solar-powered ones help much, or is that feature mostly a backup to the backup?
One thing I keep seeing debated is analog vs digital tuning. Some people say analog radios grab weaker stations better during storms, but others prefer digital because it’s easier to lock onto stations.
Any models people would avoid completely? What actually holds up when conditions are rough and not just during normal testing.
