Need a little guidance about hair !

So I'm new to reddit and I just have a small question .So I've always been a little on the uglier side of looks .Not that I have any critical scar or anything,just not really pleasant to look at .

so I've suddenly felt a craze to grow my hair .But everybody around me has said that it won't suit me .Not that I am sure myself if I can pull it off or not .But one thing I'm sure is that super short hair is really ugly for me .And I also have really thick and dense hair ,like abnormally dense I should say .

Right now I'm at about 4 inches and my hair is puffing wildly and my sides are also at its worst i believe .My family doesn't understand me and believe long hair means I'm turning into a rebel.I just finished my 12th and preparing for entrances and might take a drop year so I'm at home for most of the time .
