'The Cat' and 'Hansel and Gretel'

Just watched Obsession and picked up on a few things that I noticed and tried to clue in together!

The main thing that reached out to me almost immediately upon seeing the company to make ‘one wish willow’, be TABI cat company. Bear’s cat Sandy being the first true death of the movie, both foreshadowing Bear’s own death towards the end and his negligence at keeping her alive. Now…this may be because I saw a post about it before watching, but I’ve done research into the phenomenon and don’t think I’m entirely crazy for connecting the two; cats are often symbolic of women, and in horror, share exploitations. I don’t really have anything to add to this, other than it’s a great way to set-up a pretty shitty and ‘don’t-know-any-better’ guy character. A gradual progression to being complacent with your cat's death to a woman’s torture. I’d like to hear what you guys think and whether or not I'm actually insane.

Also, the Hansel and Gretel story. Fair warning, I may not have gotten every detail, I was kind of thrown off by the sudden tone shift, but I think I got it (And if I didn’t plz correct me). But it’s the story Nikki started writing, between Hansel and Gretel, where they had been sleeping together for some time and Hansel finds out they’re, y’know, brother and sister, prompting him to be like “wtf, you’re my sister?”. But Gretel, who knew, is like “Yeah… but I love you, and you’re too deep in it now to abandon me.”. Very disturbing, but also telling how the OG  Nikki sees this situation. When you zoom out, Nikki and Bear’s situation is supposed to feel just as disturbing as the incestuous, codependent, story she’s writing about. Nikki has actively given to Bear’s wishes to be loved, and once he wants out, it’s too late to leave; she’s already loved him. Plus, earlier in the movie they discuss how Og Nikki felt about Bear, which is as a brother. I saw this story as a kind of way for Og Nikki to express herself through writing even when she’s not technically there. There's no way possessed Nikki would write about anything besides Bear.

Anyway, that's just what I got. Thought the call back to the woman in the witchy show responding to Bear’s “Do they usually ask for a refund?” And her, “Usually about killing themselves”, was a silly foreshadow to Bear’s predicament. But yeah, great movie!!!
