Pildonal open excision

This might seem silly, but I am 22 5'8 female and a very paranoid anxious person. I had surgery for my pilonidal cyst Wednesday and my paper says if you still see bright red blood to call. Does that mean on my packing or if the wound is leaking? Is seeing blood on my packing normal? Also how long does it take the process of taking the packing out to stop hurting? Please let me know.
