breathe and relax
I’m about to go on taking my mcat for the third time. (One test may 2024, March 2025) and now June 13 in three weeks.
For anyone who is reading through Reddit getting discouraged just remember that a lot of what is seen on here is not the standard! I had a teacher in high school tell me, “believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see” this is your journey!!!!!! If you are dedicated to becoming a doctor, you will do it ! The mcat is one part of your application (a big one) but only one part. I spoke with a current MD/pHD student at a top ranked medical school which happens to be my dream school, and she scored a 504. You will become a doctor if you want to, you can do anything you set your mind to.
I can say (after studying for this exam for the third time) that it is demoralizing. It sucks. I scored a 502 on my last FL I took about a week ago. (The only FL I’ve taken since my last exams. I took after months of studying and pushing back FLs because I didn’t want to waste my time with them. I had done the FLs before the previous years so wanted to go in with full confidence, but from this full length I had extra time in the sections and after going through realized a lot of things was not a knowledge gap but missing something little in the passage that I needed to get the answer. Read carefully, treat every passage as if it is a new test and don’t get tripped up. Do a box breath or 4-7-8 count breath to activate your parasympathetic nervous system. For every FL I took last year, the year before and on actual test day (both times) I ran out of time in both C/P and CARS (sometimes B/B) every time. I view this FL as a win! Celebrate your wins, know that you can do this , and know that Reddit can be a toxic place.
I have confidence in myself that I will score well on my mcat, it starts with confidence!
If you are someone approaching the MCAT for the second, maybe third time, like me. Take rest days, build your confidence. Yes, knowledge is important. And so is discipline. and the exam is hard, but you got this twin flame.
