Campaign failed

I am completely gutted! I've been playing Freelancer for quite some time now. Had some very close calls, some successes, and a whole lot of failure. Today, I finally got to the last mission of the campaign. This one was in Bangkok. I was not feeling good about my chances, as this was the very first time I got this far. I braced myself and went into the mission, ready to take down the leader. It was tricky getting around all the lookouts but I made it down to the lower levels. There were two suspects down there and quite a few lookouts. I've been able to spot the assassins, so I knew what to look for. I carefully drew out one of the lookouts and took him out but one of the security guards saw the body and I couldn't take him out before another lookout saw what was going on. The leader started escaping, I chased him down and was able to take him out but of course everyone was after me at that point. I somehow made it back down to the lower levels, exit right in sight. just as I made it to the exit, another suspect and his guards popped up out of nowhere! I pulled off taking them all down and made my last step to the exit, when someone off screen, hit me with the killing shot. I was RIGHT THERE AT THE EXIT! I'm still in total shock. Oh well, that's the game for ya. Time to get back out there and take out The Syndicate.
