Tuvix

New to the sub so apologies if this is a topic that is posted often or that you're sick of. I'm wondering what the good Trekkies of this sub have to say about the moral quandary presented by the Voyager episode "Tuvix".

Technically, Tuvix is neither Tuvoc or Neelix. Rather, he is an entirely new being constructed from their molecules. With that in mind, if you have the power to separate them but choose not to act, you are in essence "killing" Tuvoc and Neelix. Therefore, the logical argument might be to sacrifice one life to save two.

Conversely, one could argue that Tuvoc and Neelix are already dead, that they died the moment of the transporter accident. Under that framing, is it ethical to kill this new being in order to resurrect your dead friends?

I find this to be an interesting dilemma. What are your thoughts on this? Would you have made the call that Janeway did, or would you have allowed Tuvix to exist at the expense of Tuvoc and Neelix?
