Second Gen Pulling a Tinner

Question ❔

Hi all, sorry in advance if this particular scenario has been talked about a bunch before. I am currently in the process of shopping around for a new vehicle. Right now I drive a half ton truck, I have owned it for 6 years and to be honest, I cannot remember the last time I needed to use it as a “truck”. I drive 5 whole miles to work every day and back in it, and it makes absolutely zero sense to keep it around from a practicality and a fuel standpoint.

I recently just bought an old 14’ Lund fishing boat. The weight stated in the catalog says dry and with no motor the boat weighs approximately 200lbs. Add the trailer and motor and I’m roughly guessing 700lbs total.

I am partial to Honda as my family has had plenty, and my wife still drives her first car (8th gen civic) and it has been absolutely amazing maintenance and reliability wise. The second gen CR-V’s look and drive awesome to me, and I know they are rated for 1500lbs max.

I love the idea of something much smaller than my truck, a K series, and the possible capability of pulling this little boat around on the weekends. I’m not opposed to first gen Pilots, but simplicity wise the second gen CR-V’s are really scratching that itch for me.

My question is have any of you towed just a small aluminum fishing boat with one consistently and decent distances? (All the good lakes are 1 hour 15 minimum from me.) Any issues in terms of struggling to get it out of lakes on launches/slipping when AWD is engaging? It’s a shame there’s no locker to split power equally without front wheel slip needing to happen first.

Thanks so much!
