Buy together or solo

Buying & Selling

I’ve been with my partner for 3 years. We don’t live together, I rent and he still lives at home. We see each other 2 times a week and honestly it works so well - we love the time we spend together and it also gives us the opportunity to enjoy our alone time which we both value.

I have an opportunity to buy through the Help To Buy scheme (3x2 new build) as a first home buyer. I would like to buy something sooner rather than later (I’m 30, he’s 25 so probably at slightly different stages in life). I’m unsure whether to bite the bullet and do this now by myself, or to hold off for a few years and look at buying something bigger together as a couple (without help to buy). Would using this scheme complicate things later down the track?

Unfortunately my borrowing power by myself is only around the $450-500k range which doesn’t give many opportunities in Perth, which is why I’ve been looking at the HTB scheme. I’ve. heard about rent vesting too but don’t know too much about this, would this be a better option?
