A ex bf owes me money but is now ignoring me

So I dated him for two years and throughout the years I have sent him thru Cash App 7k. He told he wanted to repay me and I said okay and went with it. Then I started asking him about it before we went our separate ways and nothing. He has no job and never has for the two years I’ve been with him. I live in Cali and him in Alabama. So now I sent him a text telling him I wanted to talk so we can come to some sort of plan on how he plans to pay me back. He has been ignoring me. I’m not sure what to do. I know I can do a small claim court in his state, but idk what else to do.
