Hi. I'm Black Male 33

I've had my locs for about 3 years now and they are currently a few inches passed my shoulders. I did them myself after growing my hair out for about a year and a half and I do my own retwists with black beeswax, Jamaican mango lime loc and twist gel, and some blue magic. (coconut or hemp) Sometimes I'll add some cantu leave in conditioner after twisting. Occasionally I use the mango lime oil too but I havent had that in a while.

I'm ngl I could be way better w upkeep but the main reason I got dreads was so I didn't have to worry about getting my hair braided or cut all the time. I usually wash once or twice a month. Mostly I just use water alone but when I feel like I need soap I got some dove 2 in 1. I usually retwist once every couple of months because I like having the rugged look and not standing out. I shave on the same schedule.I've been more on top of it lately tho due to my roots disappearing. 

I did mess up with my parting when I was starting them and had to untwist some locs and split them to make it look even on both sides. I know that's probably a part of the problem due to the size of those particular dreads. They're skinny and almost feel like they're only hanging on by a few strands lol. When I retwist I try to get all the way down on my roots so I can get all the new growth but I don't think that's helping me atp. I thought letting it grow out and waiting a while between retwists would help but when I do finally retwist it's no better. 

I've had locs like 3 or 4 other times but only once were they as long as they are now. If I have to cut them again it is what it is but honestly I'd probably just restart the process. So I'd rather keep them if I can. I've already considered twisting the smaller ones together but I don't think that's gonna help in the long run. I've had long hair most of my life so that's just what I prefer at this point but I'm too busy and too lazy for all the upkeep. 

I've always done my own dreads because I'm also cheap but I'm just looking for some helpful advice or tips that can help my reverse my root damage and save my hair. Maybe point me in the direction of some good hair products and a routine. I see people with hair way longer and heavier than mine and their roots are thick and strong and I be jelly. I've considered that it could just be hair loss but that honestly doesn't make since. All my sibs have long and thick hair and my dad just started to bald recently midway through his 50s. I'm 33 so I know it's not impossible but I like to believe I got more time lol. It might be worth mentioning that I have a softer grade hair. I struggled getting it to lock because it just wanted to straighten out and would never hold. 

I'm sorry if this long winded but I tried to provide as much details as possible so y'all knew exactly what I was dealing with and where to lead me. I appreciate those of y'all that takes the time to read this and assist me. 

My roots are thinning and I'm close to cutting.
