I'm having issues with chickens

I cannot, for the life of me, find a male chicken anywhere. Even the cockerels, which I assume are supposed to be males, are female in my playthrough. Is this a bug, and is there any way I can fix it?

Btw, I have no mods installed in this playthrough, and I am running the latest version of b42
