Typical cost for dental work?

Hi, my dog 4 year old male border collie has a broken tooth and requires dental work to get it pulled. My vet is quoting me about $2000 for the surgery. I was absolutely stunned by this bill for pulling the one tooth. My vet has seemed to run pricier, but is this anywhere close to ballpark of what it should be or should I spend the effort to seek out a new vet just to get this done? Thanks
