How do I (22m) tell my DM (23m) that I don’t like rules in dnd

AITA

Ive been playing DnD since 2016 and ive loved it ever since my first session. It’s my favorite way to open a door to another world and just escape for a bit. However, I’ve recently joined a new table and the DM is a bit of a problem for me. You see, he keeps saying that actions I’m attempting don’t work in the game. Like for example, I’ve tried to climb driders a few times and he keeps saying there’s no rules for that. And, I understand that but I don’t know why he’s letting some stupid rules get in the way of our fun.

And here’s the embarrassing part, I don’t really play DnD for the rules. In fact, I don’t really like rules at all. I play DnD for the story. It’s just really a drag for everyone else when the DM tries to force us to follow all the rules.

He also keeps going on about “tactics in combat” but like, DnD isn’t about tactics, it’s about roleplay and collaborative storytelling.

In fact, when I run DnD, I don’t really like to use any rules at all except for D20s.

What do I do?
