Stage 4 DIE - is excision surgery worth it?

Surgery related

Hi everyone,

I’m (29y/o) based in Sydney, Australia and have recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 DIE. I’m current seeing the incredible Dr Sarah Choi (happy to hear experiences if anyone here has seen her too), and excision surgery has been recommended.

Honestly, I’m feeling quite anxious about the idea of surgery and would really love to hear real experiences from others who’ve been through it. (Unsure if relevant — I don’t have children and am not planning on conceiving in the next 2 years at least).

For those who had the excision surgery for severe/stage 4 endo:

> Was it worth it for you?
> Did it improve your pain/quality of life?
> What was recovery like?
> Was the pain after surgery manageable?
> did anyone regret having surgery?

And for anyone who delayed or chose not to have the surgery:
> Did your symptoms or disease progress?
> Were there any complications leaving it untreated?
> Wid you eventually need surgery anyway?

Notes on my experience:
• period pain has always been quite high month to month
• I get severe pelvic pain a handful of times per year, either during period or during ovulation. Sometimes after intercourse.
• I see people online suffering in their day to day due to endo, and I can’t help but feel that maybe my pain isn’t as bad as others despite the Stage 4 diagnosis. Makes me question whether I can just do without the surgery and handle the pain when it comes on (as I have been for many years).

I know everyone’s experience is different, but I think hearing some honest experiences would help calm my nerves a bit. Thank you! 🤍
