From $50/Week to Real Income: What Actually Changed in My Vending Business

A year ago I thought vending machines were dead unless you already had connections. Every “guru” made it sound easy, but in reality I spent months getting ignored by businesses, driving around looking for locations, and pulling maybe $40–$50/week from mediocre spots.

What finally changed things for me wasn’t the machine itself. it was treating vending like a real location business. I stopped targeting random small businesses and focused on apartments, hotels, gyms, and places with recurring foot traffic. One decent apartment complex now outperforms five of my old locations combined.

Biggest lesson: good locations are basically everything. A mediocre machine in a great location will outperform an amazing setup in a bad one every time.

I also realized most operators are wasting insane amounts of time cold calling blindly. I still do outreach, but now I mostly use databases and marketplaces where property owners already want vending services. Honestly saved me hundreds of hours. I’ve been using VendPlacer lately because it aggregates available locations people are actively listing, which is way more efficient than walking plaza to plaza hoping someone says yes.

Still not “passive income” like TikTok says though. Restocking, maintenance, product testing, payment issues, etc. are real. But once you get a few strong locations, the business starts compounding in a pretty satisfying way.
